Cellulite or orange peel skin: how to get rid of it naturally? It’s easier than you think.

Cellulite or orange peel skin: how to get rid of it naturally?Did you know that cellulite can affect all ages and all body types without exception?

As a general rule, cellulite is more a women’s problem than a men’s problem. It is besides a physical problem also a mental problem because not everyone is mentally ready to accept cellulite. Yet it is well proven that a healthy and interesting diet, coupled with certain exercises, massage and other easy-to-adopt habits can treat this affliction successfully and help to prevent it.

Generally localized on the buttocks and/or thighs, cellulite often called “orange peel skin” is most often of an undulating aspect caused by subcutaneous fatty clusters.

Read on to obtain the right knowledge with which you can happily and naturally fight cellulite by eliminating certain bad habits and adopting good ones!

Cellulite or orange peel skin: how to get rid of it naturally? Introduction

Superficial lipodystrophy, cellulitis, cellulite, or orange-peel skin develops in localized areas of the body. In women, the thighs, hips and buttocks are the areas most affected.

For men, it forms on the abdomen or stomach with the love handles.

Whatever the area affected, cellulite can be visible directly or when pinching the skin that will make these famous dimples appear.

Causes of cellulite

Cellulite can appear due to a saturation of fat cells called adipocytes, which are located in the deepest layer of the skin (hypodermis).

Their appearance is due to internal causes: hormonal imbalance, stress, genetic factors or disorders of blood and lymphatic flow.

But that’s not all, other causes, of an external nature, can also lead to the formation of dimples.

A poor diet or a lack of activity contributes to the increase in the number and size of these unsightly fat cells.

Cellulite is also strongly linked to poor blood or lymphatic circulation. In a person prone to water retention, the elimination of fats is more difficult, which causes adipocytes to swell.

Thus, a person with a rather thin and wiry figure can also have orange peel skin on his body if the blood or lymphatic flow is bad.

Finally, the collagen fibers naturally present under the skin harden through a process called glycation. The fat becomes compact, which gives an irregular (dimpled) appearance to the skin.

This is the ultimate stage of cellulite: fibrosis.

When inflammation and compression of the nerves occur, it even becomes painful. If you find that it hurts when you pinch yourself, this is a sign that your cellulite is fibrotic (indurated) in that area.

Bad habits to stop to avoid cellulite

Stop eating foods high in bad fats

The first thing to do to avoid the appearance of orange peel skin is to reduce saturated fatty acids and hydrogenated fats in your diet.

These bad fats are easily stored in the fat cells and cause them to become inflamed. This type of fat is found in deli meats, meats, dairy products made with whole milk, margarine, pastries and all fried foods.

Also consider reducing your salt intake, which promotes water retention and therefore the development of cellulite. Be careful, because many commercial foods contain an unsuspected high amount of salt.

So be sure to look at the list of ingredients. This is particularly the case for snack cakes or industrial ready meals as well as smoked fish and canned food for example. The same applies to food additives (sweeteners, flavor enhancers).

Also limit refined sugar because adipocytes are very sensitive to insulin and the glycation of collagen leads to the fibrosis phenomenon mentioned above.

This bad sugar can be found in candy, soda and other industrial cakes, which are foods with a high glycemic index.

Stop repetitive dieting

The second thing to avoid: endless diets that make us gain more weight than we lose! The consequence? A yo-yo effect, with a significant weight change in a short period of time.

Avoid tobacco and certain medications

Tobacco decreases tissue oxygenation and blood circulation. Smoking can cause inflammation of the adipocytes, as can taking certain medications.

Oral contraceptives, hormonal treatments, antihistamines and corticosteroids can lead to poor blood flow.

Beware of tight clothing and high heels

Clothing that is too tight or high heels can harm blood circulation.

The blood vessels will therefore have difficulty in oxygenating the tissues properly and will promote the appearance of orange peel skin.

Natural remedies to fight cellulite

Palpate and roll massage

Massages drain and stimulate the lymphatic system (especially pure lymphatic drainage massages).

They are very good for eliminating toxins but their effectiveness is limited in time. The palpate and roll method consists of pinching the skin to boost subcutaneous circulation and thus promote drainage.

There is a homemade version with suction cups or manually with an oil to avoid skin irritation.

The method is as follows:

  • Pinch a bead of skin between the thumb on one side and the other fingers on the other
  • Lift and roll the skin fold by pushing with the thumb to move the bead up the body in several vertical strips
  • Gradually increase the pressure of the fingers and the duration of the massage
  • The lymphatic drainage corresponds to movements of pressure in the direction of the lymphatic circulation. By varying the pressure, it will stimulate the lymph circulation and lead to detoxification and drainage of the tissues.

You can use commercial creams, but this is not the best solution as they are only moderately effective.

Choose creams with circulatory active ingredients such as ginkgo biloba, fragon (Ruscus aculeatus), climbing ivy (Hedera helix), horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), red vine, Fucus vesiculosus or even Agrimonia eupatoria

Cold showers

Taking cold showers all over the lower body, from the bottom to the top, will also stimulate the circulatory system and prevent the phenomenon of fat storage.

Regular physical exercise

Physical inactivity decreases the secretion of catecholamines (hormones that help to destock fat).

This is why regular physical activity is necessary to avoid the appearance of cellulite. Certain physical activities will have a greater effect on the disappearance of cellulite.

Activities that strengthen the postural muscles that improve venous return (abdominal and erector spinae muscles for back support), walking, jogging, rollerblading, or cycling are ideal.

They allow rhythmic contractions of the leg muscles, which is very beneficial for blood circulation and venous lift.

Swimming, aqua gym or aqua biking are ideal activities to tone the circulatory system and the pressure is equivalent to lymphatic drainage.

Constant hydration

It is recommended to drink 0.4 – 0.5 gallons of water per day for each person. Try to drink a little more than the recommended amount if you can.

You can diversify your consumption with herbal teas with circulatory benefits such as infusions of walnut leaves, stinging nettle leaves, crushed cypress nuts, yarrow tops, little holly roots, or even red vine or witch hazel leaves.

Green tea also has interesting properties since it promotes the removal of fat. At the same time, it protects the circulatory system and supports connective tissue (flavonoids).

Occasional but regular cures help to tone the liver (rosemary), and drain the intestines and kidneys (dandelion).

A balanced and healthy diet

Choose potassium-rich draining foods such as fennel and grapefruit.

Magnesium is also very good, and you can source it from cashew nuts, almonds, buckwheat or brown rice.

They facilitate cellular exchanges and decongestion. Then we have celery and cucumber, diuretic foods that help eliminate toxins.

To maintain connective tissue integrity and promote vascular protection, consume products rich in Omega 3. This is found in large quantities in certain vegetable oils such as flaxseed, rapeseed or walnut oil.

They also help control tissue inflammation and will participate in the destocking of adipocytes.

Eat organic fruits and vegetables in abundance! Their fiber reduces fat absorption.

Dark red fruits (blueberries, blackcurrants, grapes), apples, lemons, tomatoes and vegetables such as carrots or broccoli are foods rich in flavonoids, and excellent for strengthening the elasticity of the vein walls.

If taken in addition to the vitamin C found in most fruits (kiwi, blackcurrant, cherry, lemon, orange) and green vegetables (kale, spinach, parsley, broccoli), they are excellent for the venous system.

What anti-cellulite products work?

Anti-cellulite creams

Most anti-cellulite creams contain one or a handful of active ingredient(s) that can act on the adipocytes to promote the elimination of fat, the best known being caffeine.

However, this action is only theoretical, as it is unlikely that these assets will reach the area where they are supposed to act.

Remember, fat cells (adipocytes) are located in the deepest layer of the skin (hypodermis).

Indeed, the more the texture of the product that you apply is aqueous, such as thinning gels or slimming creams, the more difficult the penetration is.

Moreover, caffeine, like many other active ingredients used in this type of product, does not easily penetrate the skin (because it has a low affinity with fatty substances, the majority of which are in the skin).

Thus, slimming creams and gels cannot promote the destocking of fat cells and therefore do not really act on cellulite.

In addition, most of these creams contain questionable preservatives that are best avoided. I therefore do not recommend its use, both for your health and your wallet.

The only advantage of this type of cream is that it will encourage you to practice self-massage which, more than this type of product, is effective against cellulite.

But then, if slimming products are to be banned, what are the other options?

A homemade recipe to say goodbye to cellulite

You can make a slimming product that is much more effective than commercial gels and creams.

It is necessary that this product has a strong affinity with the skin (and its fatty bodies) in order to penetrate it deeply. It is therefore a slimming oil to do to act on your cellulite.

This oil will contain the best anti-cellulite active ingredients: essential oils.

With an exceptional affinity for the skin, they penetrate very easily to the hypodermis to act directly on the adipocytes.

Essential oils with lipolytic ketones are particularly effective against cellulite.

Beware, they are to be avoided by pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under 10 years old, and the elderly (Atlas cedar, Eucalyptus mentholated, Italian Helichrysum, Peppermint, Rosemary camphor, Rosemary verbenone, etc.).

Anti-cellulite oil recipe:

  • 0.03 liquid gallon of vegetable oil of your choice (sunflower, sweet almond, calophylla, macadamia, sesame, olive, grape seed…)
  • 16 drops of grapefruit essential oil (zest) (citrus paradisii)
  • 16 drops of Italian Helichrysum essential oil
  • 16 drops of essential oil of Eucalyptus mentholated (eucalyptus dives)
  • Caution: not for pregnant or breastfeeding women and no exposure to the sun just several hours after application (grapefruit essence is photo-sensitizing).

You can massage yourself with 1 tablespoon of this anti-cellulite oil added to 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar (to eliminate toxins and promote drainage).

Massage the areas affected by cellulite, either by hand or with a soft brush (not a horsehair glove).

Always massage from the bottom to the top to promote blood circulation (venous return).

It is also possible to perform a body wrap. To do this, simply spread this oil on the areas to be treated and wrap it with moistened seaweed or a film for 35 minutes.

Don’t forget to rinse well at the end of the wrap.
